All of the waterjet machine tool manufacturers sell equipment
for supporting waterjet machining applications. But these
tools are designed for the general job shop market and there
is no one tool that works for all applications. For advanced
waterjet cutting applications specialized tools are required.
Often they are specifically designed to optimize a particular
application.
The engineers at Ormond are experts at designing custom
waterjet tooling to meet the most demanding applications.
Ormond will design and fabricate custom waterjet tooling and
accessories for their customers needs.
Two of the most critical components in a waterjet cutting application
is the waterjet nozzle body and the mixing tube design. The
waterjet nozzle body must perfectly align the waterjet orifice
with respect to the mixing tube. Tolerance stack up for all of
the components can significantly affect the cutting results. The
geometry of the mixing chamber and the spacing of the internal
components also has a significant effect on high precision cutting
applications. For any given application there is a specific waterjet
nozzle geometry that will either optimize the machining results or
even enable the machining process to occur.
The general waterjet machine tool manufacturers only offer 4 or 5
different internal diameter mixing tubes. This limited selection
of waterjet mixing tubes is sufficient for most waterjet machining
applications. But there are many instances where mixing tube diameter
needs to have a specific diameter to machine production parts.
