With many years of research and development experience,
the engineers at Ormond have been instrumental in developing
the most advanced abrasive waterjet machining technologies
available today. These advancements include a combination
of hardware and process improvements along with the development
of new technologies.

Our expertise in understanding the physics
of the abrasive waterjet machining technology has enabled us to
develop solutions to the most demanding customer requirements.
|
|
As with all manufacturing processes, there are advantages and
disadvantages to their use. For a particular part, the ideal
process depends on the material, geometry, performance, cost,
and lead time requirements. There are many applications in which
the waterjet offers the most effective solutions to this balance.
|
|
For example, the waterjet machining process often offers significant
advantages over EDM and laser machining processes because it can be a
low cost machining method that creates no recast layers which have
negative effects on fatigue performance. There is no heat affected
zone, no thermal distortion and extremely low workpiece loads
during machining operations.
A common misconception about waterjets is that they can not be used
for precision cutting, small hole drilling, or even controlled depth
machining applications. Though this was true ten years ago,
advancements in hardware and process improvements have changed this.
This document provides a quick overview of some of the new technologies
and capabilities that our engineers have developed. These capabilities
include precision cutting, micro hole drilling, and controlled depth
machining capabilities.
